HVAC Classes

By successfully completing a program of accredited HVAC classes, students become qualified to work as professional technicians in one of the nation’s fastest growing industries. The demand for HVAC technicians is at an all-time high and is expected to continue to rise as increased focus is placed on bringing California’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in line with state environmental requirements. With an HVAC degree from a trade school in California, you can carve out your place in this exciting, always-popular field.

Why Take HVAC Classes?

While it is still entirely possible to receive HVAC technician training through an apprenticeship, an increasing number of employers are looking for individuals who have already completed HVAC classes. The reason for this emerging trend is that graduates from vocational training programs tend to require significantly less time (two years on average) to become self-sufficient in the work place than the three to five years it typically takes for an apprentice to reach the same level of proficiency.

Time is money in today’s hectic workplace, and getting new employees up to speed quickly is vital to every business’ success. The classes offered by HVAC programs save employers time and money by supplying them with a steady stream of nearly ready-to-work technicians.

What are the Best HVAC Programs in California?

Whether your preference is to complete your training at a physical campus or through an online trade school, you’ll have no problem finding top-notch, fully-accredited HVAC programs in California. A brief summary of the schools that offer HVAC degree programs follows.

WyoTech (Fremont, Long Beach and Sacramento)

Offered through evening HVAC classes at the Fremont, Long Beach and Sacramento campuses, WyoTech’s program caters to individuals who have work, personal or family commitments during the day. All coursework can be completed in nine months, with graduates receiving a professional diploma at the conclusion of their training. No online classes are offered at this time.

Center for Employment Training (Coachella, San Bernardino, Sacramento and San Jose)

The CET offers certification programs for both HVAC Specialists and HVAC Technicians at its Coachella, San Bernardino, Sacramento and San Jose centers. Classes are only available at the centers, and require an average of 600 to 800 hours to complete.

Charles A. Jones Skills And Business Education Center (Sacramento)

One of the more-prestigious programs offered in the state, the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning certification course offered at Charles A. Jones’ Sacramento center provides graduates with certifications as both Service Technicians and Heating and Air Conditioning Installers. Classes must be attended in-person on campus, and require 42 weeks to complete.

Institute of Technology (Citrus Heights, Clovis, Modesto, Redding and Stockton)

With five California campuses to choose from, the Institute of Technology ranks among the state’s largest educators of HVAC technicians. Courses are offered on weekday and weekend schedules, requiring nine or 11 months to complete, respectively. All classes must be taken at the campus.

Online HVAC Classes

For students who are interested in attending online classes, Penn Foster Career School and Allied Schools offer what most consider the best online programs available. While the training provided does an outstanding job of providing students with the theory and analytical skills required to succeed in their profession, it should be noted that they do not allow for the same hands-on learning that one would experience in on-campus HVAC classes.
